Housing First

Learn about our services to end homelessness

Safe, stable, and affordable housing is more than a place to rest your head – a home represents hope, security, and dignity. Housing First means ending homelessness and housing instability for individuals so that they can shift from survival to thriving. Open Door Community provides individuals experiencing homelessness with “a platform from which they can pursue personal goals and improve their quality of life.”

The Warming Shelter is more than just a refuge from the cold. It’s a place of warmth, support, and community. The shelter offers episodic, emergency shelter from 7 pm to 7 am when temperatures fall below 30 degrees Fahrenheit.

Shelter is a basic need for everyone, and it’s the foundation from which families and individuals can begin to move from surviving to thriving. Open Door provides emergency homeless shelter in the Mount Rogers area to prevent homelessness from occurring.

RRH emphasizes housing search and relocation services and short- and medium-term rental assistance to move persons who have children under the age of 18 and are experiencing homelessness (with or without disability) as rapidly as possible into permanent housing.

“A truly wonderful organization with a mission to help those within the community. I wish I could give a higher rating than 5 stars. Everyone I’ve worked with has been so kind, courteous, knowledgeable, and professional.”
