Free Tax Prep through VITA
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides free, high-quality tax preparation for eligible community members. Through the VITA program, Open Door Community Action hosts free tax preparation, connecting residents to key tax credits. This helps keep more money in local families’ pockets and supports economic resilience across the region. These services are designed to be welcoming and accessible, giving neighbors a trusted local option for tax help while supporting broader financial stability and community well-being.
VITA primarily serves people with low to moderate incomes, generally those making around or under $69,000. The program also focuses on assisting individuals with disabilities, older adults, and people with limited English proficiency who may need extra support navigating the tax system.
Benefits for taxpayers
VITA helps taxpayers file their returns safely and correctly at no cost, saving the fees they might otherwise pay for commercial preparation. Our staff are trained to help clients claim important tax credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit, which can significantly increase refunds and support family financial stability.

Each return is prepared by an IRS-certified staff member and then reviewed for quality before electronic filing, helping ensure accuracy and timely refunds.
